Cancer Cures Everything
There was that thing on TV last night about Kylie and her battle with cancer. I don't want
to make light of anyone's battle with a potentially fatal disease, but I dunno, these exposes on stars who battle cancer kind of rub me the wrong way. I know they're stars, and the public want to know about said stars personal life, but I would beat my left nut and shake that Kylie was no more corageous in her battle than the 1000's and 1000's of other cancer sufferers out there. My friend James died of cancer when he was 21. Where's the special detailing his horrific journey and brave struggle?
I just don't think that a star surviving cancer should be made into a TV specials is all.

You know the answer - Robot Cars.
I mean - it's just the celebrity factor. I'm sure almost all other cancer survivers stories are even more courageous than Kylie's, simply because they don't have (virtually) limitless resources backing them up.
Sure she has other things to worry about - career, public image, will I be able to have kids after this? But she's certainly not lying there wondering how her family will survive without her income if she dies.
Having said all that, when it boils down to it, cancer, like all chronic illness, doesn't care who you are, or how much money you have, it just wants you to die, and in that regard, Kylie is the same as every other poor soul out there afflicted with the disease. It's just that the avergae person's story isn't as interesting as hers is, to the GP.
I watched the special.
Firstly. She looks great.
Secondly, the positive that came out of Kylie getting cancer, if there can be one, is the "Kylie Effect" which was spoken about in the special. So many women of my age, myself included, were prompted to get checked after she was diagnosed. I got all the tests and will continue to do so.
If that program prompted one person, male or female, to be more aware of their health, or prompted them to donate to cancer research, well, it can only be a postive.
I do, however, understand where you are coming from. :)
Clearly I concur. If she were to decide to actually SING on her upcoming tour, and do away with all the production and dancers and just, you know, play MUSIC, then I'd love to watch a provocative and inspiring doco about the battles she faced and fears she conquered in order to get the show on the road.
Ahhhh... so NOW the true prejudice comes out - you just don't like they way she makes music...
Well said LaLa. That is the bottom line.
I'm going to assume you're being facetious. Plus, the album that's referred to as 'the good one' is actually good.
Given the right moment, any Kylie song is a good song.
"I Should Be So Lucky" reminds me of playing elastics in Year 6.
"Better The Devil You Know" reminds me of dancing with Kizz in the lounge room at Philip Street
"Did It Again" reminds me of Jess at Brashs
"Confide In Me" reminds me of Karl and I actually putting our hands on the tv screen
"Love at First Sight" reminds me of dancing with Nico at my farewell at Minories nightclub in London.
Kylie has been part of the soundtrack of my life and love or hate her music, I think it's the same for a lot of people and we want to know how she is.
(I reckon even JT has a sing-along to Kyles when no one is watching)
Hey, let's keep this civilised. As much as I think the 'good' album is good, she will now and forever more remain the singing budgie.
My old man had prostate cancer in 97...as a result, I have to be checked 10 years earlier than usual (40 instead of 50)...I can hardly wait.
And agreed, Kylie will always be the same scrubber that was on the Henderson Kids in my eyes, regardless of how English she now sounds.
That's a bad scene skinflute. My only advice to you is when you're in the middle of your exam, do NOT ask for a second opinion.
