Don't Pat Yourself On The Back, You Might Break Your Spine.
I've been having some nourishing conversations with a very good, highly regarded female friend of mine lately (she's one of the few who'll tell you the unabridged truth). Just recently I was quizzing her on the whole 'Chicks Dig Jerks' phenomenon, as it continues to fascinate and frustrate the absolute living shit out of me.
She hypothesises that the concept of women liking men who treat them poorly (and I've had 2 other female friends fully admit that the concept is true) is a relatively new concept, in that it's only developed over the last 20 years or so, and is therefore a generational problem.
She could well be right, though of course if you think about it rationally/realistically/cynically, you couldn't be so naive as to think that it's only been in the last 20 years that 'nice guys' have finished last.
Regardless, I want to believe that it is a generational thing, as that means that it will eventually pass, but the fact of the matter is if you're a 20-30 something genuine nice guy, you're fucked either way.

Chicks dig guys who pull off an air of confidence and self-assurance. Unfortunately, a lot of jerks manage that.
A lot of nice guys do too. If you're happy with being a decent person, that ought to come through.

Spot on Dr Phil...I'm with you on this one. But why do there seem to be less confident nice guys? Is it because the pricks of society stepped all over them in their earlier years? Maybe.
My hat's off to you Dr. Phil, even if you're not a real doctor. I don't agree with your other statements all that much, but the SND thing is bang on.

mert-There's probably many nice non-confident guys who suffer from early years trauma at the hands of pricks, but in my experience it's been the opposite.
What??? You were the prick? I find that hard to believe...the things you learn....
mert-i was trying to convey (and i fully admit doing a crap job at it) more that when you're young your confidence is suprememly high and doesn't wane in the face of adversity, when in all probability, it should be the opposite.
Come on now... I think I can say that there are a lot of 20 - 30 something genuinely nice girls around who are fucker (or not-fucked as no one thing pointed out).
The fact of that matter is there is just a lot of arseholes in this world, male and female, who tend to scar all the nice ones thus making us think that that is all we deserve.
Or something like that.
